Olive History

The olive has been a part of human cultures for over 5000 years, and it continues to influence many cultures even today.

The olive is believed to have begun its journey from Asia minor or areas of the eastern Mediterranean and moved throughout the Mediterranean Basin many thousands of years ago. It found its way to Africa, Europe and moved to other areas of the world.

With the discovery of the new world, the Spanish began to colonize the Americas and brought with them their agriculture - including the olive. The olive reached California (c. 1775 - 1780) where orchards were planted and within seventy to eighty years the olive industry was born.
